Coatings and finishes can protect parts, improve wear resistance, change color, or improve appearance. They also affect quote price and lead time.

Specify the standard

Terms like "black anodize" or "zinc plate" may not be enough. Include type, class, color, thickness, masking, and acceptance criteria when important.

Dimensional impact

Some coatings add thickness or change surface texture. Threaded holes, bearing fits, and sealing surfaces may require masking or post-finish checks.

Batch and vendor effects

Outside finishing vendors may have minimum charges. Small orders can carry a high finish cost per part.
