Aluminum CNC Machining Cost

Aluminum is widely used for CNC parts because it is light, strong for its weight, available, and generally fast to machine. This often makes it cost-effective for prototypes and production.

Common alloys

6061 is a balanced choice for many parts. 7075 offers higher strength but can cost more and may require more care. 2024, 6082, and cast tooling plate may be selected for specific needs.

Finishing

Anodizing, bead blasting, chem film, and powder coating are common. Finish requirements can change dimensions and visual expectations, so they should be stated in the RFQ.

Cost tip

If performance allows it, choose a common alloy and standard stock size. Unusual alloys or oversized stock can increase lead time and material cost.
