Titanium CNC Machining Cost

Titanium is valued for high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. It is also more difficult and expensive to machine than many common metals.

Why titanium costs more

Titanium has poor thermal conductivity, so heat concentrates near the cutting edge. This can increase tool wear and require slower cutting parameters.

Quality requirements

Aerospace and medical titanium parts may require traceable material, strict inspection, controlled processes, and documentation. These requirements add cost beyond machining time.

Design advice

Avoid unnecessary deep pockets, thin walls, and extreme tolerances. Use standard stock and communicate critical features clearly.
