What to Include in a CNC Drawing
A good drawing tells the supplier what matters. CAD files describe shape, but drawings define tolerances, finish, material, threads, inspection, and acceptance requirements.
Essential items
- Part name, revision, and units
- Material and material condition
- Critical dimensions and tolerances
- Thread specifications and hole depths
- Surface finish and post-processing
- Deburr, edge break, and cleanliness notes
- Inspection or certificate requirements
Avoid ambiguity
Unclear drawings lead suppliers to ask questions or add risk to the quote. Clear notes usually speed up quoting and reduce surprises.
