Threads, Holes, and Tapped Features

Holes and threads are common, but they can still affect cost. Deep holes, small diameters, blind threads, and nonstandard sizes require more attention.

Standard sizes help

Using common drill and tap sizes reduces tooling changes and uncertainty. Nonstandard threads or special inserts may add cost and purchasing time.

Depth matters

Very deep holes can wander, require peck drilling, or need special tooling. Deep tapped holes may be difficult to inspect and clean.

Drawing clarity

Specify thread type, depth, through or blind condition, countersink, counterbore, and insert requirements. Clear notes reduce rework.
